Hippies was great. Get over it.

It perhaps seems an odd thing to launch a fansite for Linehan and Mathews without some kind of mention of Father Ted; instead, the two shows I mentioned were The IT Crowd and Hippies.

Well, obviously I'll be covering Father Ted at some point, seeing as it's, y'know, one of the best sitcoms ever made, and all that. But I can't do everything at once. Of course, why I'm concentrating on The IT Crowd at the moment is pretty obvious; it's a current show and there's going to be news on it. But Hippies may seem a strange choice. And why I'm going to be writing about it a lot in the upcoming weeks is pretty simple: I think it's a sorely underrated show. Every man and his bitch knows that Father Ted is amazing, but Hippies is a lost gem.

Which leads me to this article - Taking The Peace, by TJ Worthington, on the wonderful Off The Telly. I'll be writing some stuff at some point on why I love Hippies so much, but I doubt it'll be as good as that. Indeed, I'd been meaning to write something about the show before that article was even published (the idea for this site has been hanging around in my brain for a good while now), but when I first read it, I found myself thinking "shit, I was going to say that, only not as well and with more swearing" practically every other sentence.

If you hated Hippies first time round, give the article a read. It might make you want to take a second glance at it. If only you could take a second glance legally - but that's another article...

To be fair, Hippies is frequently repeated on Paramount 2. Given the fact that the repeats showings crop up quite regularly on there (and it's quite rare they'll bother running with a series that only ever lasted for six episodes), I'd assume a lot of people are already giving it a second chance. And quite rightly, because Hippies is a great series, and it's a large shame that you can buy 'Orrible on DVD (if for some reason you really want to) but not Hippies.

I'll be honest - I didn't know PC2 repeated it that often. I know they've shown it, but I haven't got it myself, so didn't know they showed it that regularly.

I expect it's in 14:9 not 16:9 though, yeah? So we could still do with some nice pristine widescreen DVD copies...
