New Arthur Mathews sitcom!

Arthur Mathews, there.Wow. Called The Eejits (a working title, apparently, but I think it's a fantastic name), about the members of an Irish pub band. Shades of Arthur's appearance in the Hippies episode Sexy Hippies, perhaps?

Apparently, funding has been given for development, with a possible pilot in the works. I am really, really excited about this - Hippies was Mathews only sitcom he wrote alone (although he created it with Linehan), and whilst there's obviously similarities to Father Ted and The IT Crowd, it's got a unique feel to it that I think is wonderful. I can't wait to see what he comes up with. As soon as I find out any more details, I'll let you know.

Great to see that Channel 4 are on the hunt for mainstream sitcoms as well, after a few years of seemingly haven given up on the genre. It's exactly what British TV comedy needs. A few more decent sitcoms on the channel, and they can commission any amount of shit featuring Justin Lee Collins for all I care.
